The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of Faisal Maina, son of Abdulrasheed Maina, the former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team.

The commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, reportedly confirmed the development on Saturday morning, according to PREMIUM TIMES.

Oyewale explained that the EFCC would need to obtain a court order before transferring Faisal to a correctional facility to begin serving his prison sentence.

“Confirmed. The necessary court order will be obtained to take him to the Correctional Centre for him to serve his sentence,” the EFCC spokesperson said in response to enquiries.

Faisal, who had been on the run since 2020, was reportedly tracked down by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Karsana, Abuja, where he was arrested.

The EFCC had previously arraigned him on three counts bordering on money laundering and conspiracy.

However, he later jumped bail and fled the country, prompting the court to continue proceedings in his absence.

In 2021, the court convicted Faisal and sentenced him to 14 years in prison.
