The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three men in Saki over allegations of engaging in same-sex sexual activities.

The suspects were named as Ayomide Lukeman, 22, Shuaib Aremu, 22, and Abdul-Rasheed Mufeed, 23. Officers attached to the command’s Monitoring Unit, Saki Operational Base, reportedly carried out the arrests.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that the arrests followed intelligence received on September 29, 2026, concerning the alleged involvement of some individuals in what the police termed unnatural sexual conduct.

Ayanlade explained that the Commissioner of Police instructed the Monitoring Unit to verify the information and take necessary action, which resulted in the apprehension of the three men.

“Upon receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, directed the Command Monitoring Unit to verify the intelligence and take appropriate action, culminating in the arrest of three suspects,” he said.

The police spokesperson further stated that preliminary investigations suggested the suspects had allegedly admitted to participating in homosexual acts.

According to him, two of the suspects reportedly confessed to having sexual relations with the third man on multiple occasions and allegedly described him as their “wife”.

Ayanlade said investigations remained ongoing to clarify the circumstances of the allegations and determine whether additional persons were involved.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to handling the case professionally, fairly and in line with the law, adding that further action would depend on the outcome of the investigation.

Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013, prohibits same-sex marriages and civil unions. The legislation also contains provisions addressing certain same-sex relationships and activities, with penalties of up to 14 years’ imprisonment for individuals convicted of entering into a same-sex marriage or civil union.
