The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a one-month-old baby girl allegedly sold for N2 million and arrested two suspects, including the child’s mother and the owner of the health facility where she was delivered.
The alleged incident took place in Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan, while police investigations are continuing to identify and apprehend other individuals suspected of participating in the alleged child trafficking.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the development in a statement released on Friday.
According to the police, the matter was reported on October 15 by Mary Amos, a resident of the Ogunwade area of Ido, who raised concerns over the disappearance of her granddaughter.
During the investigation, the baby’s mother, identified as Cecilia, allegedly named the 40-year-old owner of the health facility and another individual as participants in the arrangement.
She reportedly told investigators that the two individuals persuaded her to take part in the deal and helped arrange the alleged sale of the infant to a woman identified as Odunayo.
Police findings indicated that the transaction allegedly involved N2 million. Cecilia was reportedly paid N1 million, while the other two individuals allegedly received N500,000 each.
Following the investigation, police operatives recovered the baby girl and arrested Adeleke.
