In front of the September 21 governorship election in the state of Benin City, Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for president in 2023 in the general election, braved the rain on Saturday to open the party’s campaign headquarters.

According to ZINGTIE, the party’s nominee for governor is Barrister Olumide Akpata, and Alhaji Yusuf Asamah Kadiri will be his running mate.

In order to open the governorship campaign office, Peter Obi and other party leaders braved the rain. Earlier, they had taken to the roads, walking through several of Benin City’s main thoroughfares and stopping at the Uwelu Spare market, where vendors cheered them on.

In addition, the former presidential candidate paid a courtesy call to Oba Ewuare II of Benin to ask for his royal blessings and prayers for the party to win the election.

Speaking at the palace, Obi expressed gratitude to the royal father for his paternal duties in society and stated that free, fair, and credible elections are necessary for the country to achieve greatness.

Obi expressed his belief that the party can achieve progress in its political campaigns leading up to the governorship election if the Oba’s prayers are answered.

The party’s gubernatorial candidate, Olumide Akpata, had earlier informed the monarch that he was in the palace with the party’s national leadership to ask for his royal blessings and to tell him that he would soon commence his political campaigns.

Akpata observed that he should not go on campaigns without first going to see the traditional ruler to get his approval.

As he set out to free the state from the bonds of poor leadership, he suggested that the Oba’s prayers would be very helpful.

Akpata voiced confidence in the party’s ability to seize power and spread democracy across the state’s eighteen local government districts.

In response, the Oba of Benin greeted Peter Obi, the party’s governorship candidate, and other chieftains in the palace and wished them well as they conducted their political campaigns throughout the state’s ins and outs.
