Senator Dino Melaye, a former Kogi State governor candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has advised security personnel not to mistreat demonstrators.

According to reports, the police and other security personnel have physically abused some young Nigerians who were demonstrating against the country’s exorbitant cost of living.

The EndBadGovernance protest in Kano State reportedly descended into violence on Saturday, leading to the shooting deaths of a few protestors.

Speaking about the issue, Dino Melaye voiced his displeasure with the security guards in a post on the microblogging site X.

He emphasised that everyone was being impacted by the economic slump and advised the operatives to abstain from such responsibilities.

The post reads, “We all go to the same market, same filling station, spend the same naira, police and other security agencies have no special market or special filling station.

“Treat the people with respect. After all, they are your cousins, brother, sister, sons, or relatives”.
