EPL: You would have been sacked – Mikel Obi tells Chelsea manager, Pochettino

John Obi Mikel, a former midfielder for Chelsea, asserted that Mauricio Pochettino would have been fired if Roman Abramovich had continued to own the team.

More than 18 months ago, Abramovich was compelled to sell the Stamford Bridge team.

The squad won numerous awards under the brutal leadership of the Russian millionaire, lasting more than 20 years.

Despite being on his third permanent manager in less than two seasons after purchasing the team from Abramovich, Todd Boehly needs help duplicating his predecessor’s achievements.

The Blues are now in 11th place in the Premier League standings after Pochettino took over in the summer. Pochettino needs help getting the club to play consistently.

Chelsea appears destined to lose out on Champions League football again after losing to a youthful Liverpool team in the Carabao Cup final.

Mikel Obi told the Evening Standard: “Some of the criticism has been over the top, but we went through the same thing playing for Chelsea when we were not winning, getting criticised and watching managers losing their jobs. This is Chelsea. You have to win. You have to win games and trophies.

“Yes, we’ve given them time, but they have had time to start gelling, coming together, and playing much better. I defend the players and coach. They have to be given time, but how much time? This is Chelsea FC. If this was the [Roman] Abramovich era, he would have lost his job.”
