The Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, has taken a strong stance against examination malpractices, expelling 100 students from the institution. The decision was announced by the acting rector, Dr. Hauwa Muhammad, during the polytechnic’s 41st matriculation ceremony, which took place over the weekend.

The ceremony, attended by approximately 15,000 newly admitted students for the 2024/2025 academic session, marked the beginning of a new academic journey for the students enrolled in the National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, and part-time programs.

Dr. Muhammad seized the opportunity to caution the new students against engaging in examination malpractices, highlighting the consequences faced by their predecessors.

“Let the experience of the expelled students serve as a lesson to all. This institution has zero tolerance for any form of academic dishonesty,” she stated.

The acting rector also advised students to avoid social vices such as drug abuse, indecent dressing, and cultism while promoting peaceful coexistence on campus. The expelled students were found guilty of examination malpractices during the 2023/2024 academic session.

Dr. Muhammad emphasized the institution’s commitment to upholding academic integrity and maintaining a conducive learning environment. She urged the new students to focus on their studies, abide by the institution’s rules and regulations, and make the most of the opportunities available to them.

The matriculation ceremony marked a significant milestone for the new students, as they officially became members of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa community. The institution’s management, staff, and students welcomed the new intake, wishing them success in their academic pursuits.

With the expulsion of the 100 students, the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, has sent a strong message about its commitment to academic excellence and zero tolerance for malpractices. The institution is expected to continue it’s efforts to maintain a culture of integrity and academic rigor.
