The Imo East Senatorial hopeful of the Action People’s Party, Chima Matthew Amadi, has expressed deep concern over the renewed wave of insecurity, killings and violent attacks across parts of Imo State, particularly in Umuguma, Ihiagwa and Eziobodo communities in Owerri West, as well as some areas of Ngor Okpala.

He described the worsening security situation as a tragic reflection of what he termed the failure of government to fulfil its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.

Amadi made this known during an unscheduled condolence visit to the family of the late Mr. David Onyegbula, a community vigilante officer allegedly killed by suspected assailants in Umuojukwu, Umuagu, Umuguma, in Owerri West Local Government Area.

The visit took place while he was attending a private engagement with Rt. Commodore Ogechi Osuagwu, a retired Nigerian Navy officer and community leader.

During the visit, Mazi Amadi expressed sympathy to the widow of the deceased, Mrs. Joy David Onyegbula, their children and other relatives, lamenting what he described as the painful and avoidable loss of innocent lives to violent attacks that have become increasingly frequent across communities in Imo State.

He encouraged the widow to remain strong and seek comfort in God, noting that although no words could truly erase the pain of such a tragic loss, faith and the support of loved ones would help sustain her through the difficult period.

Amadi also strongly condemned the recurring incidents of insecurity in the state, insisting that the continued violence, killings and atmosphere of fear demonstrate the failure of the APC-led administration in Imo State to protect lives and property.

According to him, it is unacceptable that residents now live in fear, communities remain unsafe and families continue to experience grief and uncertainty, while political leaders focus more on political calculations than practical solutions to insecurity.

He further lamented that the rising wave of attacks has not only claimed innocent lives but also disrupted economic activities, affected livelihoods, displaced families and worsened fear and hopelessness among residents of the state.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Cajetan Duke, and made available to journalists in Owerri.

The senatorial aspirant, therefore, called on security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering, strengthen community-based security operations and ensure those responsible for the attacks are identified, arrested and prosecuted without delay.

He maintained that the people of Imo State deserve to live in peace, safety and dignity rather than under constant fear and tension.

While praying for the peaceful repose of the deceased, Mazi Amadi assured affected families and residents that their pains and concerns have not been ignored.

He also urged governments at all levels to move beyond propaganda, demonstrate sincerity and show genuine commitment towards restoring security, protecting citizens and rebuilding public confidence across Imo State.
