The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has announced that its recruitment exercises will now be conducted annually instead of being held at irregular intervals.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, during a media briefing at the Service’s headquarters in Abuja.

According to him, the new approach is designed to establish a more predictable manpower planning system, allowing the Service to promptly replace retiring personnel while creating regular employment opportunities for young Nigerians.

Adeniyi explained that the Nigeria Customs Service has abandoned the previous recruitment model, which often required applicants to wait for several years before another exercise was conducted.

The Comptroller-General noted that the revised system would ensure recruitment becomes a routine process, with the 2026 recruitment exercise expected to begin later this year.

He further disclosed that the Service has already put in place the necessary systems, screening procedures and verification mechanisms needed to conduct future recruitment exercises in a more efficient and transparent manner.

“The Nigeria Customs Service is moving to an annual recruitment cycle. Recruitment will no longer be an occasional event undertaken every several years. It will be a standing, predictable, yearly process.

“The 2026 Recruitment Exercise will open later this year, and it is my firm intention that it will be completed within a single calendar year, from advertisement to final list,” he said.
