Fresh Relief for Households as Cooking Gas Prices Continue to Fall

The cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas, has continued its downward trend in several parts of Nigeria over the past three weeks.

A market survey conducted by ZINGTIE revealed that the price of one kilogram of cooking gas has fallen to about N1,300 from N1,450 in different locations across Abuja and its surrounding areas.

In Abuja, Ranoil, Shafa, and AP Ardova filling stations are now selling LPG at N1,350, N1,300, and N1,400 per kilogram respectively, compared to previous prices ranging between N1,450 and N1,500 per kilogram.

Likewise, depot operators have reduced their selling prices, with LPG now trading between N997 and N1,030 per kilogram, down from previous highs of about N1,100 per kilogram.

Across retail outlets in Dawaki, Kubwa, Gwarimpa, and Lugbe, cooking gas is currently being sold for around N1,500 per kilogram, compared with the earlier average of approximately N1,700 per kilogram.

The latest reduction in prices comes amid a sharp increase in Liquefied Petroleum Gas imports into the country.

Figures released by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for June indicate that LPG imports surged by 1,400 percent, reaching 1.5 kilotonnes per day in June 2026.
