Fresh Twist as APC Governor Responds to Davido Controversy Ahead of Osun Poll

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodinma, has clarified that award-winning singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is still “his son” despite the recent political tension surrounding the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

Uzodinma, who also serves as Chairman of the APC Osun Governorship Campaign Council, explained that he is not a registered voter in Osun State and is only involved in the campaign to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

The governor made the clarification in a statement released on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Oguwike Nwachuku.

The statement followed remarks allegedly made by Ambrose Nwogwugwu, who criticised Davido after the singer appealed for the August 15 governorship election to be conducted peacefully.

Davido, who is a nephew of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, had earlier called on Uzodinma to ensure that the election is free, fair and peaceful.

However, Uzodinma dissociated himself from the comments attributed to Nwogwugwu, insisting that he did not authorise him or anyone else to speak on his behalf.

“The comments are personal opinions and do not represent my position or that of the APC governorship campaign council,” the governor said.

Reaffirming his relationship with the music star, Uzodinma declared: “Davido remains my son. His coming to Osun for the exercise is solely because he is a committed member of the APC and not one of the voters in the state’s governorship election.”

The governor reiterated that the APC remains committed to ensuring a peaceful, free, fair and credible governorship election in Osun State.

He also noted that it is normal in democratic settings for party leaders and supporters to campaign for candidates in states where they are not registered to vote.

Uzodinma urged Davido, the people of Osun State and the general public to disregard the remarks credited to Nwogwugwu, explaining that the clarification was necessary to avoid any misunderstanding ahead of the governorship election.
