Fresh Twist Emerges Over Ebonyi PDP Governorship Race Ahead of 2027

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and factional National Ex-Officio member of the party, Mazi Moses Idika, has dismissed calls urging the party’s 2027 governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, to withdraw from the race over zoning concerns, insisting that the businessman and philanthropist remains fully in contention.

Idika maintained that the governorship seat in Ebonyi State has traditionally been contested by aspirants from different senatorial districts and that no constitutional provision bars any qualified citizen from contesting for the position.

According to him, governorship elections conducted in the state since 1999 have featured candidates from Ebonyi North, Central, and South senatorial districts, irrespective of political arrangements or zoning agreements.

He insisted that Chief Odii’s aspiration is valid and should be decided by voters at the ballot box rather than through what he described as an “imaginary zoning system.”

Idika also challenged supporters of Governor Francis Nwifuru’s second-term ambition to focus on highlighting the administration’s achievements instead of concentrating on succession politics.

He further accused the state government of failing to tackle major developmental challenges confronting the state while expressing confidence that Odii would provide an alternative vision focused on investment, industrialisation, and economic growth.

The PDP stalwart described Odii as a committed leader dedicated to improving the welfare of Ebonyi residents and positioning the state for greater economic opportunities.

“Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii will contest, he will win, and Ebonyi people will be happy again,” Idika stated.

He called on Ebonyi residents to determine the state’s next governor through democratic means during the 2027 governorship election.

The statement comes amid increasing political activities and realignments among political parties in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
