Counsel to the Department of State Services (DSS), Fidelis Adedipe, has criticised human rights activist Omoyele Sowore over the alleged defamatory remarks he made against President Bola Tinubu.

Adedipe expressed his views during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Thursday, where he argued that freedom of expression has legal boundaries and alleged that Sowore exceeded them.

It would be recalled that the Federal High Court in Abuja recently admitted Sowore to bail in the sum of N200 million.

The activist is currently facing prosecution by the DSS over allegations that he made false claims against President Tinubu by describing him as “a criminal” in posts published on his X and Facebook accounts.

Reacting, the DSS lawyer said, “Mr Sowore actually crossed the line. He tweeted, calling the president a criminal, and that is a joke taken a bit too far.

“You may not like the occupant of the office of the president, but the office ought to be respected. He was asked to take down the tweet, which he refused.”
