Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has imposed an immediate prohibition on petrol sales within Bama Local Government Area, covering both Bama town and Banki.
This decision followed extensive consultations with the state’s security agencies and is part of efforts to tackle ongoing security threats in the region.
According to a statement released on Saturday by Dauda Iliya, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, the move is a calculated part of the government’s broader strategy to support anti-insurgency efforts.
“I have directed the immediate ban on the sale of petrol in Bama town, Banki, and other parts of Bama Local Government Area with immediate effect.
“Let me make it clear there will be no sacred cows in the enforcement of this ban. Security agencies have been given strict orders to clamp down on any filling station or individual contravening this directive. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with accordingly,” Zulum warned.
Reaffirming his administration’s resolve to ensure peace is permanently restored, the Governor urged residents to collaborate fully with authorities in the battle against insurgent activity.
