According to the Nigerian Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), an oil leak at a pipeline controlled by Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (SPDCC) would be investigated.

The incident happened in the southern Rivers State Obolo-Ogale pipeline, which supplies one of the two routes used to export Bonny Light crude, the 180,000 barrel-per-day Trans Niger line.

The head of the agency in Rivers State, Ime Ekanem, said the news agency that they have received information about the spill and will visit the location on Sunday as part of a joint investigation.

As a result, on Friday, nearby residents discovered the spill and notified SPDC and NOSDRA.

The field had only begun to operate again in December of last year when the event occurred.

According to ZINGTIE, Shell declared that it had agreed to sell SPDC to five oil companies in Nigeria for a maximum price of $2.4 billion.
