Controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has commented on the cancellation of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka’s US visa.
President Donald Trump’s administration reportedly revoked Soyinka’s visa permanently.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery, Freedom Park, Lagos Island, Soyinka, who revealed the news, said he had no knowledge of any action that might have led to the cancellation.
The development has sparked reactions from Nigerians, particularly on social media.
Responding on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, Gumi compared the situation to the revocation of his own Saudi visa.
He suggested that the US government’s action is part of an effort to silence dissenting voices.
“It reminds me of my Saudi visa revoke for no offence beside freedom of speech.
“Poor them. You can’t silence those who don’t need you to survive”, Gumi wrote on Facebook.
