Ademola Adepetu, a 35-year-old commercial biker, has been taken into custody on suspicion of raping his lover’s 12-year-old daughter. The girl described how she was imprisoned in a room and repeatedly raped during her ordeal in front of an Akure Magistrate court.

She claimed that two years ago, her mother left them for Libya in pursuit of better opportunities, and that her father had deserted her and her two younger siblings, who were three and seven years old.

According to her “Before travelling, my mother rented one-room apartment for us and left us in the care of her younger sister, who later absconded and never returned”.

She accused her parents of being careless, pointing out that the defendant exploited their desertion.

She claimed that after luring her in with promises of funding her studies, the defendant sexually assaulted her four times.

Adepetu, meanwhile, has been charged with one count of illicit sexual intercourse and has been brought before the court. Adepetu, who entered a guilty plea, maintained that he had sexual relations with the girl when she was 15 years old.

A 15-year-old girl was old enough, according to the defendant, to “know a man.”

Additionally, he disclosed to the court that he wed his first wife before turning twelve.
