Nearly 300 people were detained in Paris following violent clashes between fans and law enforcement after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) achieved a landmark 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final.

The disturbances occurred around the Champs-Elysees and Parc des Princes, where approximately 50,000 fans had gathered to watch the game on large screens.

While flares and fireworks lit up the evening sky in celebration, the festivities turned destructive as bus shelters were vandalized, vehicles set ablaze, and property damaged throughout the city.

Paris police confirmed the arrests, noting that most were related to disorderly behavior, including the possession of fireworks and other banned items.

Authorities deployed about 5,400 officers across the city to manage the crowds and maintain order.

“Troublemakers on the Champs-Elysees were looking to create incidents and repeatedly came into contact with police by throwing large fireworks and other objects,” a police statement reads.

Despite the chaos, most PSG supporters celebrated the club’s first-ever Champions League triumph peacefully.

Many danced in the streets, sang club songs, and honked car horns, while the Eiffel Tower shone brightly in PSG’s blue and red colors.

French President Emmanuel Macron, who is known to support Olympique de Marseille, also expressed his congratulations on X, saying: “A glorious day for PSG! Bravo, we are all proud. Paris, the capital of Europe this evening.”
