As reported by Anadolu Agency on Tuesday, March 03, 2026, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un claimed that his nation’s nuclear capabilities prevent potential attacks and raised the question of why other states with nuclear weapons are not targeted. These comments were covered by North Korean state media on Monday.

Kim spoke about his nation’s nuclear stance amid escalating global tensions in a statement disseminated via the Korean Central News Agency.

“A country with two nuclear facilities attacks another country because it has nuclear facilities,” he said, referring to recent military strikes by United States‑led forces against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

“I also have nuclear facilities, so why does no one dare to approach me?” Kim added, underscoring his conviction that North Korea’s arsenal serves as a defense against outside attacks.

Amid the international community’s close scrutiny of airstrikes that are said to have aimed at Iranian nuclear sites—actions provoking concern among nuclear-armed nations and fears of broader regional conflict—Kim has made remarks.

The North Korean leader’s statement underscored Pyongyang’s enduring stance that nuclear weapons are crucial for its national survival and security.

According to analysts, Kim’s rhetoric is indicative of a wider strategy aimed at bolstering North Korea’s reputation as a nuclear‑armed state and suggesting to outside powers that any military action against Pyongyang would have dire repercussions.

North Korea has emphasized on numerous occasions that its nuclear arsenal serves defensive purposes and aims to avert foreign intervention against its government and territory.

Kim has utilized North Korea’s nuclear program as a key focus in domestic communications, depicting it as a protector of national sovereignty.

His statements correspond with Pyongyang’s longstanding opposition to denuclearization negotiations and its assertion that nuclear arms are fundamental to its military doctrine.

The recent pronouncement of the leader is expected to have an impact on current diplomatic talks concerning nuclear proliferation and regional security, as global powers aim to reconcile deterrence with initiatives aimed at avoiding further escalation.
