Alleged extortion by certain Nigerian police force officials in certain regions of the nation has been condemned by Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

ASP Emmanuel Ubong, Inspector Nse Okon, Inspector Adiewere Collins, and Inspector Kuromare Marine are the officials of the Zone 16 Zonal Headquarters, Yenegoa, who are involved in the current case.

A bunch of young Nigerians were accused of extorting 10 million naira from the officers.

The officers have now been arrested and put through a formal room trial after the money was seized, according to a statement signed by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.

According to the statement, the IGP “maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any act of corruption and police misconduct, as the Force takes every allegation of extortion and abuse of power extremely seriously.”

Egbetokun further stipulated harsh penalties for any officer found guilty of extortion and abuse of power, regardless of position.

The Nigeria Police Force would continue to look into all claims made against negligent officers, the IGP told the public.
