A video showing Marcel Niat Njifenji, the Senate President of Cameroon, dancing to celebrate his reelection in March.

On March 18, 2025, 91-year-old Marcel Niat Njifenji was re-elected as Cameroon’s Senate President with 87 out of 90 votes.

Since the Senate’s founding in 2013, he has served 13 consecutive terms. He continues to be the Cameroonian president’s constitutional successor as Senate President.

Niat Njifenji’s re-election shows that his colleagues still believe in his leadership, despite his advanced age and past health issues.

The following details are important to note: President of Cameroon is 93, President of the Senate is 90, and President of the National Assembly is 85.

  1. President Paul Biya: He is reportedly running for reelection this year at the age of 93, further solidifying his position as one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders. Since 1982, he has led the nation.
  2. Marcel Niat Njifenji, President of the Senate: Since 2013, he has presided over the Senate at the age of 90. He was just elected to a second term.
  3. Cavayè Yengui Djibril, President of the National Assembly: He has been the head of the National Assembly since 1992 and is 85 years old. He will be one of Africa’s longest-serving parliamentary leaders if he is re-elected in 2024.
