Reza Pahlavi, offspring of the last Shah of Iran, has expressed his willingness to assume leadership of the country in the event that the current regime falls following Ali Khamenei’s death.
Pahlavi, a long-time exile, stated that he has embraced what he characterized as a summons from the Iranian populace to lead the nation through a political transition.
He is the firstborn son of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the monarch who was ousted in the Iranian Revolution. Pahlavi has emerged as one of the most prominent critics of the current Iranian government over the years.
He has frequently urged demonstrations against the Islamic Republic and demanded the abolition of the governing system. He has also stated that Iran ought to strengthen its relationships with Israel and Western nations.
Khamenei died as a result of attacks by the US and Israel in Iran.
According to Iranian law, the Assembly of Experts has the duty of selecting a new supreme leader. No successor has been announced yet, though.
Currently, a temporary leadership council consisting of the president, the head of the judiciary, and a member of the Guardian Council is governing the country.
Pahlavi, in a video message posted on social media, accused the current rulers of Iran of having spread violence in the region for decades.
“For nearly five decades, this terrorist regime has brought chaos and bloodshed across our region,” he said.
He mentioned that numerous Iranians have requested him to guide the country during a transitional phase after the current administration is gone.
“I have accepted that responsibility,” he said.
“My goal is to restore stability and allow Iranians to decide their future through elections.”
Pahlavi urged Arab nations to back a prospective transitional government in Iran and collaborate with it if political change occurs.
