The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated its readiness for the 2027 general election.

The electoral body observed that this was accomplished notwithstanding the delays related to the amended Electoral Act’s passage, which is currently before the National Assembly.

The Commission revealed that it has finished its work on the election timetable and schedule of activities, confirming that it is now awaiting legislative action regarding the proposed amendments.

During an interaction with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on Wednesday in Abuja, this was revealed by INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan.

He clarified that while INEC has sent its recommendations to lawmakers, the timing of any amendments to the Electoral Act could still impact various elements of the election schedule.

Amupitan noted that certain activities specified in the timetable might need to be adjusted based on when the National Assembly finishes work on the amended law.

He did, however, emphasize that the Commission is still dedicated to ensuring a credible election.

He added that INEC will continue to fulfill its duties according to the current legal framework until the revised Electoral Act is approved and enacted.

Details will follow later
