The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has reiterated the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) dedication to using its newly acquired air capabilities responsibly and effectively in the ongoing battle against terrorism, banditry, and other threats undermining national peace and security.

In a statement issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the objective is to foster lasting peace and safeguard civilians and their property in accordance with internationally recognized rules of engagement.

This assurance was given by the Chief of Air Staff during a strategic visit to the United States, where he led a senior NAF delegation to participate in a Programme Management Review Meeting focused on Nigeria’s acquisition of 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters.

As part of the visit, the Air Chief personally examined the helicopters and held discussions with senior members of the United States Marine Corps to learn about global standards for operating, maintaining, and supporting the AH-1Z platform.

“This visit has provided a unique opportunity to understand best practices for the operation, sustainment, and logistical support of the AH-1Z platform from the United States Marine Corps,” he said.

Air Marshal Abubakar also conveyed sincere appreciation to the United States for its continued strategic collaboration with Nigeria.

“We are deeply grateful to the United States Government for its enduring strategic partnership with Nigeria,” he stated.

He emphasized that the addition of the AH-1Z Vipers will greatly improve NAF’s combat power, mission capability, and overall operational readiness, and he reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to fast-tracking the procurement process.

“We are fully committed to ensuring these platforms are delivered in the shortest possible time. Every necessary step will be taken to facilitate a seamless procurement and integration process,” he said.
