Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, a former minister of transport, has urged young Nigerians considering leaving the country to think about the chances they have here and remain.

The former governor of Rivers State stated in an interview with Arise TV that Nigeria offers lucrative prospects that individuals pursuing better possibilities abroad might not be able to obtain.

He believes that there is a chance for someone to come out of nowhere and become the nation’s leader.

He said, “I’ve always discouraged the people who want to leave the country. If you want a 9 to 5, yes, you can always get that when you leave the country, but you can never get the opportunity we have in Nigeria.

“You can just wake up one day and become a minister, and you can just wake up one day and become a governor. It just happens. So, if you are looking for opportunities, please stay back in Nigeria, but if you are looking for a 9 to 5, then you can go.”

The former candidate for president also attributed Nigeria’s rampant crime to the nation’s failing economy.

He claims that because Nigeria’s economy is too tiny to support everyone, robberies, and other crimes are more common.

“If all of us start working in Shell now, there would be no time to go and rob or kill because you leave at 6 am and by the time you come back at 6 pm, you will be tired, so my advice to them is to get your degree if you can, and if you can’t, well, I am lucky”, he added.
