JUST IN: Marketers say Dangote’s CNG Trucks Insufficient for Nationwide Fuel Distribution

Oil marketers have raised concerns that the recently launched CNG-powered trucks by Dangote Refinery will not be adequate to meet Nigeria’s petroleum distribution needs.

The National President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), Billy Gillis-Harry, made this known during an interview on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme, on Tuesday.

According to him, investments already made by oil marketers in the downstream sector should not be overlooked. He stressed, “All we are asking for is inclusion because there is no way Dangote’s trucks will be enough to supply products to the nooks and crannies of the country. We are also investing in CNG trucks, so there is not so much innovation in saying Dangote is the only one with such trucks.”

Gillis-Harry further explained that their major priority is to guarantee effective nationwide fuel distribution. “All we want is to ensure seamless and effective supplies to even areas where Dangote’s trucks cannot reach,” he said.

Highlighting the critical role of retail outlet operators, he added: “We, the retail outlet owners, are the last men in the industry and should be able to get products from almost all the depots in the country. We want Dangote Refinery to be successful.”

His remarks came shortly after billionaire businessman Femi Otedola urged members of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) and the Dangote Refinery to restructure, sell assets, and reinvest in the Port Harcourt Refinery in order to remain competitive.
