Following a court decision that led to his imprisonment, the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, in Kebbi State has demanded the immediate release of its publicity secretary, Alhaji Sani Dododo.

Usman Bello Suru, the party’s state chairman, told reporters in Birnin Kebbi that the Magistrate Court’s verdict was politically motivated and skewed in favor of the state’s ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC, government.

Suru added that Dododo’s comments on a recent radio programme, which precipitated the legal action, were made in his official role and reflected the PDP’s collective view on the governance style of the APC-led government in Kebbi.

“The judgement is a direct affront to the right of every citizen to speak truth to power,” Suru said. “We have mobilised legal experts to challenge this ruling and will continue to expose the failures of this administration and defend the people of Kebbi State.”

As a personal affair unrelated to Governor Nasir Idris or his administration, the Kebbi State Government denied involvement in the legal battle between Alhaji Sani Dododo and Comrade Mohammed Usman Anache, according to a ZINGTIE report published on Friday.

The government underlined in a statement issued on Friday that the case is a private matter between the two parties and has nothing to do with Governor Nasir Idris or his administration.

“We want to make it categorically clear to the good people of Kebbi State that His Excellency, Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, is a true democrat who respects the rule of law,” the statement read.

The government further underlined that it had no involvement in the court proceedings and stated that it only learned about the issue through public discussions.

“This administration is not involved in the case and should not be linked to it in any way,” the statement added.
