Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has welcomed 6,549 new students for the 2024/2025 academic session. The matriculation ceremony, held on Saturday, marked the 32nd edition of the institution’s annual event.

Addressing the fresh students, Rector Professor Salisu Ogbo emphasized the importance of maintaining good behavior and avoiding vices that could jeopardize their academic journey. He stated that the institution has a zero-tolerance policy for social vices, including cultism, gangsterism, incitement to violence, examination malpractice, and cybercrimes, among others.

Professor Ogbo warned the students, “My simple warning is for you to stay away from these vices to avoid running afoul of the law. Any breach will attract appropriate penalties, including outright expulsion and prosecution.” He also reminded them that ignorance of the law would not be condoned.

“The Students’ Information Handbook that will be distributed to you through your respective departments will guide you on the dos and don’ts of the Polytechnic

The rector specifically highlighted the prohibition of cultism on campus, saying, “Let me particularly emphasize cultism, which is completely forbidden on our campus. You are therefore warned to desist from any form of cult-related activities in the institution.”

Professor Ogbo also emphasized the importance of security consciousness, advising the students to always carry their identification cards and report suspicious activities to the authorities. He noted, “My dear students, as part of the security measures of this Polytechnic, it is mandatory for you to be in possession of your student identification card at all times while on campus.”

In addition to the matriculation ceremony, Professor Ogbo announced that the institution had achieved 100% success in the recent accreditation exercise conducted by the National Board for Technical Education.

He commended the state’s past and present governors, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and Alhaji Usman Ododo, for their significant investment in the educational sector.

The accredited programs include various National Diploma and Higher National Diploma courses in fields such as engineering, technology, and management.
