Former Kano State governor and NNPP presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has only three political choices before the general elections in 2027, according to political analyst and former Kano State gubernatorial candidate Salihu Tanko Yakasai, also known as Dawisu.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Yakasai explained this and examined the potential paths Kwankwaso could pursue in his future political career.

According to him, “Kwankwaso has only three options. One, to go back to the APC, under Ganduje as National Chairman. Two, to join forces with Atiku and other opposition figures. Or three, remain in NNPP and risk becoming politically irrelevant.”

He cautioned that Kwankwaso would have to yield to Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the current National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Kwankwaso’s erstwhile political ally turned adversary, if he were to rejoin the party.

“If he returns to APC, he’ll have to bow to Ganduje, whom he once anointed but now opposes bitterly,” Yakasai wrote.

Regarding the second choice, Yakasai proposed that Kwankwaso might be able to maintain national relevance by allying with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other opposition forces, particularly as the opposition contemplates a possible merger to take on the ruling APC in 2027.

Remaining in the NNPP, which he derisively called a “kayan gwari party,” suggesting that the party had no political clout at the federal level, was the third option, according to Yakasai.

Yakasai’s remarks coincide with growing political realignments and conjecture in the run-up to the 2027 elections.

Kwankwaso, who ran for president in 2023 under the NNPP and finished in fourth place, has continued to play a big role in Northern politics but has trouble building a larger national following.

Kwankwaso has not responded to Yakasai’s remarks yet as at the time of filling this report.
