2027: Kano politics takes fresh turn as APC members decamp to NDC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has suffered another political setback following the defection of hundreds of its members to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The defectors were received on Saturday by the NDC senatorial candidate for Kano South, Dr Kassim Ibrahim Bataiya, during an event in Takai Local Government Area of the state.

The latest development adds to the growing wave of political defections recorded in Kano as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The ruling APC has witnessed a series of departures to the NDC in the state since former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, emerged as the NDC’s vice-presidential candidate.

Kwankwaso’s emergence has continued to reshape the political landscape in Kano, with politicians and supporters realigning themselves ahead of the 2027 contest.

At the same time, reports have also emerged of some politicians leaving Kwankwaso’s political camp to join the ruling APC as the race for political dominance in the state intensifies.

Political observers have continued to describe Kano as one of the major battlegrounds ahead of the 2027 elections.

The state is expected to witness a fierce political contest between Kwankwaso and his estranged political ally and current governor, Kabir Yusuf, as both camps seek to strengthen their influence and establish control over the state’s political structure.

The continued movement of politicians between the APC and NDC is therefore expected to remain a major feature of Kano’s political landscape as the 2027 elections draw closer.
