The former spokesperson for the Obi-Datti presidential campaign committee, Yunusa Tanko, stated that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, would only consent to a merger that would enable Nigeria to escape poverty.
According to Tanko, the former governor of Anambra has no interest in a merger that would give rise to political power.
Recall that Obi had meetings with Sule Lamido, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP.
After the discussion with the two, Atiku had lately called for the possibility of a merger.
Tanko responded to the rumours by saying that Obi would only associate with those who shared his principles.
Tanko made an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday and said: “His Excellency, Peter GregoryObi is not interested in a merger that is only for the interest of seeking power.
“He is interested in a merger that will bring Nigerians out of the poverty level, bringing the Nigerian people to a comfortable state of health care.
“Making sure Nigerians have potable drinking water; making sure the problem of power supply is being solved.
“So, therefore, he is interested strongly in a merger that is driven by ideology and a programme. But if it’s only for the purpose of power, he is not interested.”
