The party has responded following Dr Doyin Okupe’s resignation as the former campaign director of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council in the last election.
According to ZINGTIE, Okupe submitted his resignation from the party on Monday due to ideological disagreements that surfaced following the general elections of 2023.
Okupe, a former spokesperson for former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, has always supported the Peoples Democratic Party, according to Mr Obiora Ifoh, the LP’s national publicity secretary.
Even though the All Progressives Congress, APC, is in power and beat the party in the most recent election, the party nevertheless valued Okupe’s efforts towards ensuring the party’s victory.
“We wish him very well. We want to say that he is saying that he is leaving because he is a Liberal Democrat, while the Labour Party is a Social Democrat.
“It is also a good thing because he is not expected to be in a territory where his ideological bent will be confused or different. He has always been a PDP man, so the Labour Party expects that he will return to anywhere he wants to be.
“We wish him all the best in his future political pursuits. Though we saw the letter on social media, we have not received it officially,” Ifoh told Daily Trust on Monday.
