55 commercial vehicles were seized for unlawful parking and obstruction during a massive clearance operation conducted by the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offenses Enforcement Unit (Taskforce) near the Agege under-bridge.
The Danfo buses, Korope minibuses, and Keke Marwa tricycles that had turned the Agege roundabout on Ogba Road into an illegal motor park were the primary targets of the operation, which was headed by Taskforce Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele.
After collecting intelligence reports and conducting surveillance for weeks using the agency’s “See Something, Say Something” platform, enforcement teams expanded the cleanup to include the Ogba, Iju, and Ishaga corridors, which have been afflicted by persistent traffic jams.
CSP Akerele voiced alarm over the ongoing lawlessness of commercial drivers, pointing out that a large portion of Lagos’ traffic jams are self-inflicted.
“Traffic gridlock in these areas is largely man-made. This operation is a clear signal that we will no longer tolerate indiscipline on our roads,” he said.
According to him, the operation marked a sea change in the state’s approach to traffic control, which aims to cut down on travel time, enhance public safety, and guarantee that traffic laws are strictly followed.
The Taskforce reaffirmed that in order to eliminate illegal car parks and bring order back to important roadways, similar crackdowns will continue throughout Lagos.
