Leaked documents shows Wike’s youngest son owning 40,000 plots of land in Maitama

The Gazette discovered through records and officials that the minister’s eldest son, Joaquin Wike, has been given at least 2,000 hectares, or 40,000 plots, in Maitama, Asokoro, Guzape, and other areas of Abuja.

According to officials, the certificates of occupancy and hectares that Mr. Wike has given his son are valued at at least $3.6 billion. According to documents examined by The Gazette, a land in Maitama and Asokoro, which Mr. Wike gifted his son a total of at least seven hectares, was recently sold for $1.28 and $1.4 million, respectively.

Mr. Wike’s actions were so blatant that he disregarded the advice of his aides to be cautious, claiming he wanted his children to own the most land in the nation’s capital.

”When we told the minister in April that he needed to slow down on frequent allocations to his own children, he said he was just starting because his goal was to make them the largest landowners in Abuja,” an aide said, discussing the minister’s conduct under anonymity. “We’ve worked with ministers before him, but we have never seen anything even remotely comparable to this.”

According to insiders, Mr. Wike deliberately chose the majority of the allocations for developing villages like Kwaita, Bwari, and Gaduwa based on their medium- to long-term commercial possibilities.

Although the exact date of the scheme’s creation was unknown, records revealed that Mr. Wike began transferring the lands to Joaquin just a few days after a business bearing his name was established in October 2024.

On October 10, 2024, Joaq Farms and Estates Ltd. was officially registered. On October 17, 2024, just a week later, Mr. Wike granted the company 350 hectares through file number 155882 and certificate of occupancy number 0000162.

Thaba was misspelled as Theba on the paperwork, although the company’s address was 13, Thaba Tseka Street, Wuse II. According to The Gazette, the address has long been connected to Mr. Wike and his several fronts in the Nigerian capital.
