Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, and his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, will remain in Kuje Prison until their bail applications are granted on January 7.

Justice Emeka Nwite gave the ruling on Friday after hearing arguments for and against Malami and his son’s bail applications. They are on trial for N9 billion in money laundering charges brought against them by the Federal Government.

Malami, his son, and Hajia Bashir Asabe, a Ramadiya Property Limited employee, will remain in prison until January 7, when the judge will rule on the bail applications.

Justice Emeka Nwite indicated that being a vacation judge, he has several other things to rule on and will not be able to deliver the verdict until the date.

Joseph Daudu, SAN, argued the three defendants’ bail applications, while Emmanuel Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, contested the motion on behalf of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Malami and his co-defendants had pleaded not guilty to all allegations brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on behalf of the federal government.
