On Thursday, June 5, in Okop Ndua Erong, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, a young guy named Victor Akpabio, who lived in Ididep in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, was beaten to death.

According to reports, the attack came after he allegedly had an affair with a married woman who was seven months pregnant.

Witnesses report that Victor was found at the home of the woman, Esther Akpabio Effiong, in a compromising scenario with her. According to reports, Esther is wed to Mulgu, a local businessman.

According to reports, the altercation sparked a violent outcry from the community, which led to Victor being physically abused.

According to witnesses, Victor was severely beaten and drenched with hot water during the argument. Later, he passed away from his wounds. Although law enforcement has not yet formally identified the specific attackers, the episode has raised major concerns about the application of mob justice to suspected moral or domestic offenses.

According to local authorities, Esther tried to use her husband’s marital performance as an excuse for the affair. She apparently said that her partner couldn’t provide her with sexual satisfaction, a statement that has gone viral on social media and among locals.

Whether any arrests have been made in relation to the attack has not yet been confirmed by authorities.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has yet to release a formal statement regarding the matter as of Friday morning. Human rights activists and community leaders, meanwhile, are demanding a comprehensive probe into the murder.

Many people in Ibesikpo Asutan and the neighboring surroundings are startled by the incident. The incident’s savagery and the rising prevalence of extrajudicial punishments alarmed the locals.

Some residents have expressed worry that if the issue had been brought to the attention of the proper authorities instead of being resolved through what is known locally as “jungle justice,” the terrible result would have been prevented.

Several witnesses reported that the attack happened soon after Victor and Esther were found together, though specifics on the sequence of events leading up to his murder are still unknown.

As the fight quickly got out of hand, it attracted neighbors and onlookers, some of whom took part in or saw the attack.

According to reports, the deceased’s family is demanding justice and has urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation. They maintain that the circumstances surrounding the purported affair do not excuse Victor’s death at the hands of torture and brutality.

The tragedy’s ramifications, such as the social problems of marriage, adultery, and the role of group intervention in private conflicts, are also being felt by the larger community. The state’s human rights groups have denounced the murder and underlined the need of following the law when there is suspected misconduct.

Discussions concerning gender norms, marital disputes, and the risks of mob violence have all been rekindled by the episode. Legal experts caution that enforcing the law oneself exposes people to criminal culpability in addition to undermining the court system.

The administration of Akwa Ibom State is being called to intervene while investigations are ongoing in order to guarantee that justice is done and to stop future incidents of this kind. Additionally, authorities are being asked to raise public understanding of the value of reporting suspected crimes through the appropriate legal channels and the legal repercussions of mob actions.

It is still unknown if Esther has been arrested or questioned by authorities, and no official autopsy report has been made public.

At the time of publishing, neither one from her family or the victim’s family could be reached for comment.

A community is in mourning following the sad death of Victor Akpabio, and a region is wondering how profoundly personal betrayals and societal tensions may turn into lethal violence when they are not resolved through legal channels.
