More than 5,000 politicians from various political parties have defected to the African Democratic Congress in Niger State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The mass defection took place during the weekend in Wushishi Local Government Area in support of the governorship ambition of Mohammed Kpautagi.
The defectors were drawn from the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party and New Nigeria Peoples Party. Among them was former 2023 House of Assembly candidate under the APC, Abdul Ishaku.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Ishaku said their decision was influenced by confidence in the leadership direction of Kpautagi and the growing structure of the ADC within the state.
He described the development as a sign of early political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing optimism that the party would become stronger in the state.
The defectors were officially received at the ADC secretariat in Wushishi by the party’s Local Government Chairman, Hussaini Zakari Makun Sidi.
Sidi welcomed the new members and assured them of equal opportunities and inclusion within the party, adding that the ADC remains open to Nigerians committed to democratic participation and political development.
