Mass General Hospital Receives $10 Million to Advance Holistic Health Research and Care

Massachusetts General Hospital, part of Mass General Brigham, has announced a significant $10 million grant from the Boston-based Shah Family Foundation. This generous funding will support the launch of a pioneering program dedicated to researching and leveraging holistic therapies to enhance patient healing.

The grant will enable the establishment of the Center for Comprehensive Healing, a groundbreaking initiative focused on promoting “whole person health.” This innovative approach encompasses a range of wellness practices, including breathwork, meditation, massage, tai chi, acupuncture, and energy healing

According to Maurizio Fava, Mass General Brigham’s chair of psychiatry for academic medical centers, “We want to…champion a thoughtful approach to holistic health.” Fava emphasized the importance of this new initiative, stating, “The new [center] will give us the tools we need to explore the most successful interventions and share those discoveries with clinicians who can use them to make a difference for patients around the world.”

The Center for Comprehensive Healing aims to investigate the most effective holistic practices and bring evidence-based methods to patients and practitioners. To achieve this goal, the center will convene clinicians to share research and best practices, collaborate with Boston-area community health centers to increase access to care, and serve as a trusted resource for health and wellness media professionals.
