The Mat-Su Health Foundation (MSHF) in Wasilla, Alaska, has awarded academic and vocational scholarships totalling more than $2.6 million to 489 residents of Matanuska-Susitna Borough. The scholarships, ranging from $2,000 to $9,000, support higher education in the fields of health and human services.
More than half (55 per cent) of this year’s awardees will attend in-state institutions, with top areas of study including nursing, behavioural health, and allied health fields. This year’s awards bring the total number of academic scholarships awarded by MSHF to 2,082, totaling more than $10 million over the last five years
According to Elizabeth Ripley, MSHF president and CEO, “As the Mat-Su remains the fastest growing borough in Alaska, it is critical that our healthcare workforce keeps pace with the community’s evolving needs. Our scholarship programme plays a key role in preparing local residents to become the next generation of health and human service professionals. These careers not only offer strong employment prospects but also provide a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting, positive impact on the lives of others.”
The scholarship program aims to support the development of local healthcare professionals who can meet the community’s growing needs and make a positive impact on the lives of others
