Musk to be in attendance as Trump convenes first cabinet meeting

President Donald Trump of the United States is set to hold his first Cabinet meeting since returning to office last month, aiming to advance his agenda with most of his nominees in place.

Reports indicate that Elon Musk, who is overseeing the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and has been pushing to reduce the federal workforce by thousands, will be present at the meeting.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that while Musk does not hold a traditional ministerial role or formal decision-making powers, he is considered a special government employee and senior adviser to the president in his capacity as head of DOGE.

Sources suggest that Musk, who was Trump’s top donor during the 2024 presidential campaign, is not the only controversial figure in attendance at the upcoming meeting. Among the most debated members of the Trump administration are Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., known for his skepticism about vaccines; Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who has been associated with conspiracy theories; and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, a former Fox News host who has been accused of sexual assault.

The US Senate has confirmed all of Trump’s Cabinet picks to date, despite criticism from Democrats about their qualifications and past records.

With Trump’s Republican Party holding a slim majority in the Senate, the refusal of more than a few senators to oppose his selections highlights his firm control over the party, which has seen most dissenters either leave or fall in line.
