Ayisat has informed the Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, that she has lost interest in her marriage to Surajudeen because he has a propensity of assaulting her.

In addition to beating her, Ayisat claimed that Surajudeen broke into her room and took her possessions.

The plaintiff further stated that the defendant was not happy, came to her store to argue with her, and took some of her merchandise and money.

Ayisat begged for custody of their children as well as an order prohibiting her husband from threatening, fighting, or meddling in her personal affairs.

Despite receiving court summonses, Surajudeen did not appear in court.

In her testimony, Ayisat stated: “My husband and I had a traditional wedding and he paid N3,000 as my bride price.

“We were initially based in Ilorin, Kwara State and our marriage is blessed with two children.

“My husband was callous and started beating me early in our marriage.

“He was fond of raising argument over trivial issues and would end up beating me, just because he paid a stipend as my bride price.

“I left him and relocated to Ibadan when I could no longer endure his maltreatment of me.

“My lord, my husband still came to my rented apartment in Ibadan to fight me. He also went away with my belongings.

“He came back a month later, broke the door of my apartment down, and went away with the remaining of my valuables.

“My lord, my husband not yet satisfied came to my shop last month to beat me up.

“He stole all the money I made that particular day, and also carted away some of my goods.

“My husband never wanted my progress and has succeeded in ruining me.

“I came to court so that an end would be put to our relationship and that he would be stopped from doing more harm to me.”

Following her hearing of the plaintiff, the court’s president, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, delayed the case and directed that the defendant be served with a new hearing notice.
