The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully eliminated two notorious bandit leaders, Gero (Alhaji) and Alhaji Riga, along with over 20 of their fighters, in a precision airstrike in Katsina State.

The operation, carried out by the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma, targeted heavily fortified bandit camps in Unguwar Goga Hillforest, Ruwan Godiya Ward, in Faskari Local Government Area, during the early hours of Wednesday, March 13.

A statement from Deputy NAF Spokesman, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, explained that the airstrikes were based on reliable intelligence and had a significant impact on the criminals.

“Additional casualties were reported in the surrounding rocky hills, and a full assessment of the damage is ongoing,” the statement added.

Gero and Riga were identified as key figures in supporting banditry, offering shelter to terrorist groups responsible for frequent ambushes along the Funtua-Gusau Road, especially between Yankara and Sheme villages.

“Their elimination represents a significant victory in the ongoing military effort to restore peace in the North-West,” stated Group Captain Ali.

He further reassured that the NAF, working alongside ground forces, remains dedicated to eradicating all threats and dismantling bandit strongholds in the region.
