NCAA releases August flight figures as domestic airlines face fresh scrutiny

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has disclosed that domestic airlines recorded 4,765 delayed flights and 36 cancellations in August 2026, with Air Peace and United Nigeria accounting for some of the highest figures.

The aviation regulator disclosed the figures on Sunday through a post on its official X handle while releasing its August summary of domestic flight disruptions.

According to the NCAA data, 15 airlines, accounting for 59.9 per cent, operated a total of 7,961 flights during the month, with about six out of every 10 flights failing to operate according to schedule.

Air Peace recorded the highest number of operations during the period, operating 1,864 flights, out of which 1,330 were delayed, representing 71.4 per cent of its total operations.

The NCAA further reported that United Nigeria recorded the highest delay rate among the airlines, with 943 delays out of 1,231 flights operated during the month.

The airline also recorded eight cancellations, the highest number among the carriers during the period.

Enugu Air was next, recording 582 delayed flights from 878 operations, alongside four cancellations.

The regulator stated that 2,801 of the delayed flights were held up for periods ranging from 16 minutes to one hour, while another 1,322 experienced delays lasting between one and two hours.

A further 407 flights were delayed for between two and three hours, while 235 flights suffered delays lasting three hours or more.

Of the 235 longest delays, Air Peace accounted for 108, while Enugu Air recorded 46 and United Nigeria recorded 41.

The NCAA, however, commended Umza Air for recording the strongest performance among the carriers during the month.

The airline recorded 52 delays out of 403 flights and did not cancel any flight, while Xe Jet followed with 40 delays from 127 operations.

“Others were Aero with 246 delays from 469 flights, Arik 188 from 301, Ibom Air 254 from 560, Max Air 204 from 336, Rano Air 216 from 503, Value Jet 435 from 767, Green Africa 114 from 226, Overland 139 from 239 and Binani 22 from 57.

“NG Eagle recorded no operations during the period,” the NCAA said.
