The Nigerian Communications Commission, or NCC, has recognized that Abuja’s Quality of Service (QoS) issues have impacted users’ telecom experiences.
In response, the Commission stated that it is working with key licensees and stakeholders to address these issues, noting that they are primarily brought on by interruptions in the supply of diesel that impact IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation company in charge of supplying power to Airtel and MTN base stations in the impacted areas.
The National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association’s (NOGASA) actions, which interfered with diesel supply to locations and caused telecoms service outages in Abuja, were the cause of the difficulties, according to the NCC.
The NCC stated that it is dedicated to providing all Nigerians with seamless communication services and acknowledges the significance of a dependable power supply for the delivery of the best possible communications services.
In order to address the diesel supply problems and investigate sustainable solutions, the Commission said it is actively interacting with pertinent stakeholders. It urged everyone to cooperate in order to quickly resolve these issues by eliminating the diesel supply bottlenecks that are affecting vital telecommunications infrastructure as a result of NOGASA’s actions.
In the face of these challenges, the NCC said: “We reiterate our commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the growth and sustainability of telecommunications services in Nigeria. We are taking proactive steps to facilitate dialogues between the impacted service providers and other stakeholders to promptly resolve the diesel supply concerns that have negatively affected service quality.”
The Commission went on to say that it is still committed to handling the matter well and will inform the public of any developments toward the restoration of full communications services in Abuja.
“We thank telecommunications subscribers for their understanding and patience during this period and reaffirm our commitment to delivering high-quality telecommunications services nationwide.”
