The Nasarawa State Human Capital Development Agency has commenced the registration of businesses belonging to 1,200 less-privileged women in the state with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to improve their livelihoods. The agency aims to enable the women to have easy access to financial interventions from the government and other recognized establishments.

The Director General of the Agency, Habiba Suleiman, disclosed that the programme is part of the EmpowerHer project, which aims to train the beneficiaries on financial and digital skills. “We are here to extend the gestures of the EmpowerHer programme to the good people of Wamba Local Government Area,” Suleiman said. The 1,200 beneficiaries, drawn from 12 communities across six local government areas, will also enjoy free enrolment into the state’s Health Insurance Scheme.

The agency is also training the women on financial literacy to enable them to digitize their businesses and operate without hindrances. “We need to get them ready for opportunities that abound. For example, there are a lot of Federal Government grants that most of our women do not qualify for, simply because they do not have bank accounts,” Suleiman said. The agency will provide bank account opening services, help reactivate dormant accounts, and ensure that the women get National Identity Numbers and other technical and funding support.

The Director General expressed gratitude to the Africa Human Capital Development Plus for supporting the agency’s activities and urged stakeholders in Nasarawa State to key into the HCD agency’s agenda to accelerate development in the state. The Galadima of Wamba, Shuaibu Yusuf, commended the Director General for the opportunities given to the beneficiaries, while one of the beneficiaries, Aisha Idris, promised to properly utilize the opportunities to improve their livelihoods
