Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has stated that when crime and corruption rule the country’s governance, Nigeria cannot effectively decrease hunger and restore the dignity of its people.Obi stated in a post on his official X Twitter on Monday that millions of Nigerians live with hunger and poverty every day, making them more than simply abstract statistics.
According to the former governor of Anambra State, the situation was not typical but rather the consequence of inept leadership devoid of empathy and ability, who are not motivated to prioritize the needs of the Nigerian people in their decisions.
“Recently, the United Nations stated that about 34 million Nigerians will face acute food insecurity, and about 63% of our population, which is about 133 million people, now live in multidimensional poverty.
“Inflation even with the suppressed statistics, is nearly 30%, while unemployment and economic mismanagement have nearly wiped out our once vibrant middle class. Families who once lived stable lives are now slipping into poverty.
“Other nations have faced similar challenges and turned their fortunes around through disciplined leadership, sound economic policies, and a total commitment from the leaders to invest in human development and pulling their people out of poverty,” he wrote.
