Two vehicles carrying the exhibits and illegal narcotics valued at over N690 million have been seized by the Nigeria Customs Service, Katsina Command.

Speaking to reporters about the arrest and seizures on Tuesday in Katsina, State NCS Controller Mr. Idriss Abba-Aji made the announcement.

According to Abba-Aji, NCS agents found 14 cartons of Tramadol worth N650 million and N28 million worth of Fragbaline capsules concealed in two separate cars.

He claimed that the seizures took place in two weeks and that the agents also seized cannabis sativa valued at almost N15 million.

“Recently, we noticed that our borders are used for drug smuggling. Vehicles are cleverly used to confuse security personnel encountering them.

“You may think such vehicles are conveying dignitaries. The public must understand that during our operations we stop all available vehicles to ensure checks.

“People complain about customs disturbing commuters. Drug traffickers will never use lorries or open vehicles. They conceal drugs inside vehicles designed to appear ordinary,” the controller said.

The NCS controller went on to say that officers are unable to find such hiding places without stopping and searching, emphasizing that they were fortunate to seize two cars on separate dates.

He went on to say that each car carried a lot of illegal substances, which, if not stopped, were likely to be dispersed across Katsina and the surrounding regions.

Abba-Aji reaffirmed that banditry in the area is fueled by drug usage. The command has stepped up its enforcement efforts in an effort to lessen the threat.
