Buba Galadima, a leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), expressed concern over what he called a planned attempt to destabilize Kano State and establish a pretext for the Federal Government to impose a state of emergency.

Speaking on Jigsaw, a political program that aired on AIT on Tuesday, Galadima revealed the information. He claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was unaware that the scheme was being developed.

“On the Kano situation, unknown to him—and I can beat my chest that he didn’t know—Tinubu didn’t know what happened, what was arranged,” Galadima stated.

“There was a grand design to set up the Kano State government, including the Emir, such that they could declare a state of emergency.”

He added that in order to plan the plot, a high-level meeting was arranged at the home of a senior government official in Abuja.

“There was a meeting in a senior official of government’s house in this Abuja, and the man that was supposed to be appointed Emir was sent to Umrah, and as I speak to you now, he is in Saudi Arabia,” he said.

Galadima claimed that the plan was to imprison the current Emir of Kano in Abuja so that military action would be taken and the throne would become vacant.

“Their thinking is that once the Emir is invited today, he will be detained in Abuja. Once he’s detained, the military will be put on alert and the throne will be declared vacant,” he added.

Galadima refused to reveal the identify of the person reportedly being prepped for the Emirship when the program’s anchor pressed her to do so.

“No, I don’t want to mention names. Go and find out who is in Saudi Arabia out of the princes in Kano. Everybody in Nigeria knows what is happening,” he said.

His assertions follow a recent event involving Muhammadu Sanusi, the Emir of Kano. The Emir was previously invited to report to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, but on Monday, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun revoked that invitation. Investigations into suspected murders during the Eid-el-Fitr festivities had been connected to the invitation.
