Kabiru Rurum, a member of the House of Representatives who represents the Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure Federal Constituency, has denied that he was suspended from the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

According to ZINGTIE, the Kano State Chapter of the NNPP stated earlier Monday that four members of its National Assembly would be suspended for alleged anti-party activities.

However, the legislator told NAN in Kano that he was still a party member and that his suspension was unjustified and in contempt of court.

Rurum claimed that he was a member of a separate NNPP faction, as were his other alleged suspended colleagues.

He said that the Kano NNPP leadership was not a legitimate party leader and accused them of disobeying court orders.

They dragged him to an Abia High Court, Rurum said, citing a court ruling that rejected their allegations. The court has not yet made a decision.

He claimed that the party’s national chairman, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and other party leaders were invited to the wedding of Sen. Kawu Sumaila, one of the impacted lawmakers, but decided not to go.

Rurum said that his faction functioned independently and rejected the suspension as pointless.

He emphasized that since his group was not associated with the side that issued the suspension, it only applied to that faction.

With continuous legal disputes and political difficulties further dividing the two groups, this development contributes to the NNPP’s growing gap.
