NYSC finally speaks after dramatic rescue of abducted corps members

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has reacted to the successful rescue of 16 Corps members who were abducted in Kogi State on August 26, 2026.

The Corps members were reportedly kidnapped while travelling from the NYSC orientation camp in Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their Orientation Course.

The NYSC commended the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, DSS, Kogi State Vigilante groups and other stakeholders who participated in the search and rescue operation.

In a statement signed by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the Scheme praised the professionalism, courage, commitment and coordination displayed during efforts to secure the release of the Corps members.

The NYSC also acknowledged the support and commitment of President Bola Tinubu towards the safety and welfare of Corps members across the country.

“The security agencies were indeed animated by His Excellency’s concern and commitment to urgently and successfully rescuing the Corps members,” it said.

The Scheme further expressed appreciation to the families of the affected Corps members for their patience and cooperation throughout the period of the ordeal.

It also commended members of the media for the professional manner in which they reported the incident without compromising the safety of the youths while they remained in captivity.

“Management is relieved that all affected Corps members have been safely recovered and are in high spirits, eager to resume at their places of primary assignment. Their resolute spirit is humbling and instructive, and NYSC remains committed to supporting them as they recover from this traumatic experience,” the Scheme said.

The NYSC reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of Corps members nationwide, stating that it would continue collaborating with the government and security agencies to strengthen protective measures.

The Scheme added that lessons had been drawn from the incident and that existing security protocols would be reviewed to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

“Lessons have been learned, and protocols will be reviewed to forestall future occurrences. Salute to courage, duty, and patriotism.”
